We want to thank everyonew who made it out to the 3rd Annual Holiday Ho-Daddy! It was a huge success and we raised 500 dollars for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank (thanks to a huge donation from Pat Byrne!) The foodbank can convert every dollar to 8 dollars of food, so we are thrilled! The show was our longest to date, as we had two new tunes we unvieled for everyone… They were Pangaea (the break-up mix) and The Final Piltdown. We are feeling more comfortable amongst homosapiens, making our playlist expand as we remember our old tribal songs and feel inspired to write new ones as well. Drumbuie was on point and even made his first vocalizations on stage in years (first time since the PlioceneEra really!) It was a night to behold. We are looking forward to our next performance and we will keep you updated on when that is!
Hello humans! We want to thank CVG and everyone who came to the auto show. It was a great time and we raised some money for wonderful causes. Check this out for a glimpse of the event! (Thanks to CVG for putting this together) It was much warmer than we thought and it was a perfect day. We had an electircal malfunction in the middle of the first tune, but this doesn’t stop us. Remember when we were first around there was no electricity.
Since the show we have been hibernating in the Surf Cave! We have written two new tunes that we are looking forward to playing for everyone. We have unearthed the fossilized ‘red drum set’ and after careful cataloging and precision cleaning it is now in the cave for Drumbuie to wail on. A tear was seen in Drumbuie’s eye as he was reconnected with another artifact from our original time period! We have the Holiday Ho-Daddy coming up and a C.F. Foundation walk booked for spring, so keep checking for updates on these. We’ll see you soon.

Hello fellow simians… the wait has paid off. I know you have been wondering, ‘Was there another mass extinction?’. Have no fear, we have not rejoined the carbon dating scene. We Surfecines are a hardy species, hell we have survived an ice age and more!! In fact we have a show coming up in October. It is an auto show that is a benefit for the C.F. Foundation and the Flying Horse Farms. These are two great organizations and we are excited to be a part of the festivities.

We will be playing for an hour, so bring the family and friends and enjoy the surf! We have a few new songs ready to go, so come and be among the first Homo Sapiens to hear them!
In surf related news:
One of our inspirations (or if you think about it, we inspired them as the first species to play surf and were in turn re-inspired when we were dug up… don’t think about it too much!)
Man or Astroman? is making a return to Ohio. They will be playing the mid point music festival September 24th. You have to see them!!
Hello fellow simians,
First, we want to thank all of you who came out to the 2nd annual holiday ho-daddy at Byrne’s Pub. The reception was great and once again we raised hundreds of dollars for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank at a time when the need is great! For those of you who missed it, we had a full hour and a half of songs and witty banter. The show included an extended drum solo between the Drumbuie and Low Frequency Echo-Communicator that had the audience dancing and pining for the primordial days of yore! Th Six String Sapien gnashed his teeth on several tunes and had solos that left you wondering how Neanderthals and early modern humans lost the gift given to them by Australosurfecus… Only recently has some of that glory been re-discovered, and a good portion of it due to the re-emergence of the Six String Sapien himself!
After the show the members of the band retreated to the cave for much needed rest and to begin the very secretive and primitive ritual of creating new songs for the modern public to consume. Several new tunes are either completed or in the works for the next time the band ventures from the cave. The idea of recording a mini-demo is also in the works, as the old recordings of the group were made with Tertiary Era technology and lack a little gusto. All three of the band members are eager to take advantage of Quaternary methods, which will enhance the primitive sonic experience for everyone. Shows are in the works, new tunes are in the works… the future looks bright for the Surfeci and there seems to be no signs of a second mass extinction!
After a few months of limiting ourselves to cave dwelling, the Surfeci are preparing to return to the public eye. Plans in the works for another holiday show, akin to last years…. We will let you know when things are finalized. Seeing how we prescribe to no known modern-sapien religion, we imbibe in the festivities of all of them, giving us plenty to do this winter. However, we have been crafting new tunes to bring to Ohio and it’s frozen shores.
We want to thank those of you who attended the Hot Times Festival. It was during a big football game here in Columbus and we thank those who braved being away from the TV for a few hours. The show went off to perfection and the debut of Sleepover at Camp Tsavo was fantastic…..
We will have show details soon.

Just this past week I, the low frequency echo-communicator, paired up with THE ‘Ape of Wrath’, Drumbuie, for a gorilla section rehearsal. Any Anthropologist worth their salt would confirm that often times when the six string sapien is away hunting, gathering, or playing in caverns for inspiration, the rhythm section of the species, myself and Drumbuie, would get together for a Gorilla session.
This very thing happened last week and it went smashingly (literally at times). We needed to hum the six string sapiens parts, which sufficed without impressing, but we made due. Our preternatural ability to keep solid beat and rhythm allows us to function in this capacity, although the tone of the product is never meant to be heard without all three working parts. We ran through a couple new cover tunes we have been polishing. There is nothing like paying homage to those who pay homage to you by playing an artform you created! After this we worked on a new orignial tune that we are excited to bring to the masses. It is a moving chart that doesn’t let you catch your breath. We also combined for an alternate version of the Apes of Wrath duet, as when left to our own vices the gorilla section always goes primitive and returns to the ‘beat rhythms on things’ ritual.
Hello fellow simians,
Unfortunately our servers fritzed on us and we lost our original show update, so I am attempting it again. Sometimes we surfeci don’t fully grasp servers and other modern conveniences. Our ‘servers’ and ‘blog spots’ involved sun-bleached fish bones, ground up dahlia petals and the nearest flat rock… Anyway…. The show last month was a success. Eric at Espresso Yourself Cafe has put together an awesome venue for modern humans, and your favorite surfing hominids, to express themselves musically and artistically. After a rousing acoustic set by Eric himself, Australosurfecus began their mellifluous set full of social-ritual dancing and primordial rhythms.
The set began with a Rumble, as usual, and the crowd was rocking from the first chordata to the last. What followed was 16 songs full of energy and passion. We Australosurfecus simply return to a time when all we worried about was food, shelter, and making music and from that space our music flows. We ended on Apes of Wrath, where once again Drumbuie showed the world why our species was so revered. With rhythmic talent like he possesses being biologically passed down, it’s pretty shocking we faded from the hominid landscape.
Thanks again to those who joined us. We hope to do it again soon.

Our fellow gentle Simians- we are proud to announce that we have to shows coming up in the month of March. On Friday March 12th, we will be performing at the Surf’s Up festival at the Dragonfly cafe. Once again joining our Peach-Sapien brethren to spread the message of peaches, art, and pipelines! The following week, we will be playing at the Espresso yourself music cafe in Powell. This will be a new venture for us and we are excited to spread the sounds of the seas throughout the mid-Ohio region and enlighten a new community on the existence of such an advanced species of early hominid. For show details and addresses check out our live shows page.
The Peachi Gras went off with a bang. Snow-be-damned, the show was a huge success and the district of Peach proved once again that it will persevere. The show supported the Central Ohio Peace Network and we are glad we could be a part of it. We had a raucous set that kicked from the first salt-water soaked chord of Rumble to the last reverberation of Surf’s Up at the Cape of Good Hope. Thanks to all who joined us and a special thanks to Zack and Philip of the Peach District for having us join the party!
Many Happy Duck-Dives…. Low Frequency Echo-Communicator
